A Call for Ideas and Support

Retracing our Food Steps in the U.S.
An educational adventure to begin on August 28, 2007

Do you value food security and strong local communities?
Do you wish that there was greater national awareness about:

  • Organic food production
  • Small scale, family farms
  • Biopiracy
  • Fossil fuel dependency in the U.S. food production cycle
  • Food safety (What IS rBGH? Are GMO foods really safe?)
  • Local economies
So do we!!

Please, consider sponsoring Gautier and I as we bike across the country to educate the public, and ourselves, about these issues. As fossil fuels become more scarce and therefore more costly, farmers across the globe will have no other option but to produce food differently. We believe there is no better time to support alternative, sustainable methods of food production in the U.S. than now! This is why we have decided to use our own bodies to power this campaign. We will visit ecovillages and other intentional communities working towards food self-sufficiency, farms practicing sustainable agriculture, and cities, towns, and restaurants to talk to people about their perception of where their food comes from.

Join us by supporting our ride across Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa,Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Washington! Email Emily at erwheele@mtholyoke.edu or Gautier at ggras@student.umass.edu to learn more, to offer ideas, or to make a contribution. Thank you!
